As you can see, I'm from Brazil. Which expression is correct: making of or making off?
Despite I used to use "making OF", I had seen both version been used in my country and in the US websites, as well.
Maybe you are referring to OOF -out of focus- or what is also called "bokeh? The area in front of and behind your sharp plane of focus? Just guessing.

However, It's weird to find the expression "making off" writed in many american photographic websites. Perhaps...typographic mistakes...
