I had fun chasing this snail around -just lucky that they move slow

Tech specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (manual mode 1/16 power).

Tough to find a way to lay a flat surface like the area of acceptable focus over the snail and still end up with a decent composition

As for the highlights -no idea on why there are three. Gonna have to look at a larger version to figure out where the extra reflection is coming from.

I've got a lens hood on my MPE-65mm, and the way I have my diffuser designed I don't see how it could be the lens. Also the lower stalks don't have the third highlight...

Edit: The more I look at it the more I think that it's a "ghost" reflection caused by having the fill at a low angle -the specular highlight from it is getting split / stretched by the stalk. Next time I'll elevate both heads with a Kaiser (instead of just the key). If it were flash light reflecting off of the lens then it's in the wrong spot and it's too intense.

Hey john,
I had looked at snails in my front yard and thought that the distance between the eye stalks and the 'rest' of it would make macro waaay too hard? But maybe i should stop 'looking' and start 'shooting'. . .
Really like it. . . .kind of a dopey sad look.

Thanks Bruce

When I shoot I look for angles that will not only make the most out of the depth, but I try to convey some sense of feeling or personality. You're the second person who's told me that the snail looks sad
