First, let me say I don't have any experience with tripods. I'm looking to get something that will hold my 40D+grip and 400mm f/5.6 tokina lens that I use primarily while hiking/shooting wildlife. I would like for the tripod to be relatively inexpensive but as tough as possible. Weight isn't really much of a concern, it could be upwards of 10lbs for all I care just as long as it's strong/inexpensive/tough.
I have a budget of $200 or so, does anything out there fit the bill? Would appreciate any help you guys can offer. I did some searches for "budget tripod" and "cheap tripod" but it didn't return many results.
I was checking out some of the flashpoint tripods at Adorama and they seem to be ok? Any suggestions?
I use a Feisol monopod which is very good. Their tripods start around $210 plus shipping and tax. Check out their website. You will also need a head so the cost is getting up there. My tripod is a Manfrotto 055ProB. A bit heavy but very good quality. I use a Feisol head with it. I bought all this second hand from FM and eBay. I believe the tripod and head cost me around $250 a few years ago. Good luck.
Here we go again. Check out some of the Dynatran offerings from Amvona. The aluminum legs are heavy, sturdy, and inexpensive. Not good for hiking mountain trails, but for shooting withing a few blocks of the car, go for it. If you have no concerns about weight, this is the one to get.
I got mine for 50 bucks back when ebay had actual auctions. 4 years later they still work fine.
Is this a topic that has been beaten to death or something? I did some searches on here and didn't find much by way of budget or cheap tripods, perhaps my terms weren't the right ones? Regardless, thanks for the info, I'll check out the suggestion you had mentioned!

It gets discussed a lot but maybe does not start out the exact way your post did so searching does not yeild the results you are thinking it would. Feisol seems to get a lot of good returns. I would say look for used too. And since they don't come up much for sale here, the Ebay suggestion may be good too. Good luck!
