p.1 #1 · Is Canon 7D (or higher Mpix APS-C camera) better for landscape?

I've been suggested to cross-post this topic here...and I thought it is a great idea!
Original post in Canon forum.
So here is some background:
Darwin Wiggett, a well known Canadian landscape photographer, has posted a test of the Canon 7D with its 18Mpix in APS-C format (crop). His results are puzzling and counter-intuitive: the 12Mpix entry level camera can provide better details than the new Canon APS-C flagship 18Mpix camera!
Before anybody shoot me, a lot of review (dpreview...) are raving about the 7D and all of them agreed about the better resolution they can get from the 18Mpix sensor. However all these tests/comparisons are done in studio not in the landscape world!

So here is the question, for you in the landscaper, have you seen any loss of quality in IQ while moving from 10Mpix APS-C sensor to 15 or 18?
Before I purchase this camera I would like to validate that, at least, the IQ remains the same...the improvement will go on the wildlife side!

Thanks,
Xavier

It seems the sharpness and lack of detail problem is party due to the current DPP software when shooting raw. Read this very good review
http://rolandlim.wordpress.com/2009/11/06/canon-eos-7d-review/

He had better results using the beta version of LR 3. The results of those reading simply dont make any sense whatsoever. the g10 has a much higher pixel density than 7D. you absolutely should be getting as much detail with 7d as with 50D. More detail would require a lens with good resolving power. I think with most good lens, stopped down which is where we shoot landscape, you can see a difference in detail.
Now, diffraction kicks in sooner for 7D, but around f 6.3. I have read coflicting reports on whether this will cause worse image detail at f11 on 7D compared to say 40D.
