e.s.sandusky And I are taking are first trip to Jasper Pulaski tomorrow. We are leaving from North Central Ohio about 2 AM or so. Any helpful info would be great. Like good spots to shoot first thing in the morning. Neither of us has been there before.
There is a pretty obvious platform there where you can shoot the birds from. Check out the website for more/better details. A quick google search should help you find the site for the jp nwr, which has a map. I'd help more but am on a phone with weak signal. Best of luck and enjoy!
I agree with Justin. The best place to shoot from at first light is the platform. Just take the turn off IN 421 onto the road to JP. Then pass the main entrance going west until you see the sign that says, "Sanhill Platform" - turn right on that road and park in the parking lot on the west side of the road. Take all your gear up to the platform for sunrise shooting. Later in the day you can drive around the area and find many Sandhills feeding in the surrounding farm fields. If you are there at Sunset the Sandhills will again congregate in the field by the platform. You can get some great sunset shots from there.
Good luck, I was just there on Wednesday of this week and it was fantastic.
