p.1 #1 · AI Servo, One Shot Relationship To AF/MF

Ok probably real stupid here but here goes. First time I have encountered this on my 1D MarkIII. When lens is in AF can switch back between one shot and Servo with no problem but when lens is in MF it seems it disables the One shot/ Servo modes as on the Mark III either would show up once the AF-drive button was pressed while the lens is in the MF mode.

Can someone explain why the difference between AF/MF and the relationship to One Shot/ AI Servo.

Thanks guys

Servo only works with AF.

They both are disabled because they are AUTOfocus modes. You have turned them off by switching the lens to MANUALfocus.

Well, focus confirm might still work, no?

Focus confirm will work, but if your lens is in MF mode, the AI Servo and One Shot autofocus modes are irrelevant.

I知 glad I知 not the only one. I was shooting the full moon a week or so ago with my 400 f/5.6 in manual AF. A few days later I went to shoot the sandhill cranes at JP. I知 in the car checking ISO settings and such. I push the button on my 1DsII to set AI servo, nothing, I知 like wtf. So I un-mount and remount the lens, same thing. I removed the battery and same thing. At this point I知 freakin out, my cameras broke. Then I remembered I had the lens in MF, set it to AF and presto, it worked. With a big sigh of relief I went shooting and took the usual sucky ass BIF痴 pics.

Yes, add me to that list.

You can also add me to the "Forgot I had the focus limiter switch set, why the hell are all my close-up shots blurry" group.
