I know these pale in comparison to the cheer shots posted by Hammy bunch but was pleased with getting some usable/sellable shots
Don't kid yourself! Those are fantastic shots!!
Personally, I've NEVER strobed an event - and I can sell or outsell better than other companies that do strobe (I've worked with several)
And the newer ISO capabilities are very enticing to make shots as good as what you've shown here.
The only shot that stands out would be #8. The high angle and wide view make the background too distracting. Otherwise, if the rest of them are full frame, then they are all winners! I'm speaking from a sales perspective: shots need to be ready to sell from the camera.
Hi Mike,
This event was at Warwick High School? I looked into doing that event but, I found out someone was already locked it up. You traveled from Cherry Hill to shoot this? My son use to play legion baseball against Cherry Hill and I traveled down there a couple times to the baseball convention they have there. Is the guy who got the event local or from down by you? If I knew that I woulda came over to see ya. I was shooting a playoff game in Goshen, not far away. Anyway, great shots! That D3 is something else! I gotta get me one of those.
Bob
Those shots are freakin insane! 6400 iso at 2.8? Look at the skin tones. Look at that black uniform. It's black. My shot would be a posterized palatte of two greens, a red, and blue for every pixel that was supposed to be black. At 3200 iso.
Beyond that, you've got the secret of shooting youth sports... isolation and expression. Like Hammy (the Oz, the Ultimate, the Godfather, gee, has anyone ever really met this guy?) always says... you are shooting kids playing (insert sport), not the sport itself.
Okay .... I'm going to be THAT guy ..... #3 isn't one I would want on the internet and I doubt the parents would want it on the net, either. There's some people ... uh .... interesting people in internet land.
I had to scroll back up and see what the heck Jonathan was talking about? I never even noticed this the first time through, I just looked at the faces. It never occurred to me to look down there, where there is no face at all. None of the bases have faces to look at. Eight people before hand, including some serious cheer shooters (Paul, and the man behind the curtain known as Hammy) commented on these pics and never mentioned this. Is this seriously an issue? Hard to even imagine.
One doesn't have throw the baby out with the bath water to address this (non issue, imho)... just crop out everything below the W, crop out the unnecessary ceiling light above her head, turning this vertical frame into a horizontal. No need to lose the joy in her face and the victory of budding self confidence inherent in her hand gesture by deleting the picture altogether.

Again, great stuff!
Hammy.
Thanks Hammy I appreciate the kind words. I see what you mean about #8 almost are all full frame just cropped for composition sake. When dealing with events like this no one has time for much PP cause time = money. Thanks for your thoughts I really appreciate it.

Hi Bob yes that is where the event was. The owner of the company has ties to this area. I traveled up Saturday night and spent the night before the shoot. This is one of my further travels via car but sometimes you have to drive to where the work is.... Maybe next time we can arrange a meet n greet. Thanks for looking
