... to me. Anyone know it? Three individuals here, two from the bush and one from around the light just before dark - hard to get the one on the ceiling - wooden beam.

Not that familiar with Australian Insects, but looks like some version of Scorpion Fly. Good luck.

Lovely captures - certainly in the lacewing/ant-lion/scorpionfly family.

Doesn't have the right "bill" for a scorpion fly I think - but might be snake fly

Snake Fly? That's a first for me, but am not surprised at such naming. Did a search but doesn't look like it.

Another excellent set of exposures, Mark. First and second frames steal the show for me.

This is a Neuropteran. (LordV, good point above about the mouthparts being wrong for a scorpionfly--very perceptive--the odd abdomen had me thinking of a scorpionfly until I read your comments.) Doing some Googling of "Neuroptera Australia", I found the Neuroptera page on the Tree of Life site, and, aha, there is a photo of a similar, or identical critter in the family Nymphidae (another photo there). Both photos are of Nymphes myrmeleonoides from Australia, and they look very close, or identical to your creature. I'll bet that is it, or at least a member of the same genus. (Australian faunal directory shows a few other species in the genus.)
Beautiful shots, of course.

Looking at the first shot of just the face I was pretty sure it was a lacewing, but the body suggests not a lacewing. (though the face definitely suggests something in the neuroptera group [As Brian first suggested]).

I think Patrick has probably nailed it, it's _so_ similar to that second shot on the tolweb neuroptera page which comes up as Nymphes myrmeleonides, if it's not that species it must be that genus...

Nice find and nice shots!

Nymphes myrmeleonides, that's it. Wonder what its common name is.

Thanks for comments guys.
