p.1 #1 · Lenses?

I need help, I have a Canon XSi, with a 55-250 F4-5.6 IS. I mostly shoot nature, wildlife, and indoor arena (figure skating and hockey), I am finding that for indoor my 55-250 does not let in enough light (even at 1600 ISO). I am planning on purchasing a new lense, but cant decide between the Canon 70-200 F2.8 or the F4. I can not afford the IS in the F2.8. I like the fact the F4 is lighter in weight. But for the indoor arena shots I think I need the F2.8. Also the indoor shots will most likely be hand held, due to the skaters moving. Any advise would be great.

Get the none IS version of the 2.8 or maybe get a 100 2.8 and a 200 2.8

This would be a good choice if you're reasonably close.

I, personally, just purchased an EF 200 F/2.8L (the mkII version is only slightly more expensive than the 70-200 F/4L new and about the same price used), which you may want to consider as well. I bought it to upgrade from the 55-250 as well. At first, I was thinking of the 70-200 F/4L as well until I came to the conclusion that when I used the 55-250, I almost always shoot at 250mm, so why bother with a zoom I won't zoom very frequently?

Thanks for all the good advise, I like the versatility of the 70-200. Especially at the arena, I usually shoot anywhere between 70-200MM. I was just hoping the F4 would do, but I think it will not let in enough light, and I hope the F2.8 will not be too heavy for hand held (without IS)

100/2 + 200/2.8 will be cheaper than any 70-200 zoom, I guess (I'm lazy to open B&H page now :P)

The 70-200 f2.8 can be handheld without IS just fine -- a little practice is all it takes.

100 f/2 + 200 f/2.8 (new) will cost about the same amount as the 70-200 f/2.8, new, but probably far less used.
