p.1 #1 · First Car Shots: Please Critique

Hello All--
I post regularly in the landscape forum, but have never made it over this way. I just recently did a shoot of a Lamborghini Murcielago for a buddy who (believe it or not) is giving the car away to promote his charitable organization. I have a background in scenic and active lifestyle photography, but have never shot anything like this. I need some honest critique as I am curious as to what is lacking to the trained eye.

Couple details about the shoot: location was Bonneville Salt Flats. No artificial lighting. I used a 30 inch reflector to bounce some light back on to the shaded side of the car (wish it had been just a bit bigger). The car had metallic paint, which changed color with different light--very cool. I am a huge user of Grad ND filters for my scenic work, and used them in a number of these images as well. Thanks for looking!

Loving them all apart from no 4. My red boxster's nose doesn't look that flabby! A bit too much distortion there methinks....

I think your eye is fine, I agree with you that you may have needed a larger reflector, the shaded side in some shots are a bit uneven in their lighting.

oh one question why do you keep the soft top up on the lambo but not the porsche? I think it will look much cooler with the top down!

Thanks all for the comments--I do appreciate it.

Tchan--I agree with you that the Lambo would look killer with the top down, but those things are a serious PITA to take down and put back up. We just opted to keep it on for the sake of convenience.

1 - I normally really dont like the 'tilted' look to car shots but everything else works just so well that its a really fantastic shot.

6 - awesome as well, amazing colours and the head lights work well here!

5 - for some reason the cars look really small here, almost like RC models!

Hope your mate is happy with them!

I think the fact that a handle and press of a button in the Porsche was much less of a challenge than a Post Doctorate in Scaffolding/Origami for the Lambo!
