p.1 #1 · Luminance and brightness | |
Hi,
I posted a similar question as part of another thread here yesterday, but I can't find my message in that thread now, so I'll ask directly:
I have an new HP LP2475W monitor, which I will be calibrating as soon as B&H delivers a package later this week. In the meantime, I'm learning how to operate and adjust its settings.
My question concerns luminance vs. brightness. After reading a few definitions online, I think I understand that brightness is a function of luminance. Many messages posted here about monitor calibration refer to adjusting a given monitor's luminance.
I don't see how to control luminance with this monitor. I can control brightness (currently set at 80, apparently the factory default setting; I assume that this is a percentage, rather than units of some sort), contrast (100 is the current setting), and color.
When it first opens, the color menu offers a choice between 9300K and 6500K (the latter is selected). Further down in the same color menu box, a user can select Custom Color and call up a submenu containing settings for Red (currently 200), Green (currently 227), and Blue (currently 242). But there's no separate box, menu, or slider that offers luminance control.
If any users of this or a similar monitor can tell me how to control this value, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
Jim Quinn
