p.1 #1 · Sigma 20-40:2.8 EX any good?

Hello to all,

I have an opportunity to purchase a Sigma 20-40:2.8 EX from a guy for 1/2 the price of a 17-40L. He also gives the circular polarizer (82mm diameter!!) for free.

Would that lens be any good on my 1Ds or 5D?

From what I remember, the optics are sharp, prone to flare and the af/mf clutch/switch makes for a poor handling lens.

There was a thread a while ago about the Tamron 20-40 lens. Conclusion was that the Tamron was a lot better then the Sigma.
