p.1 #1 · 1st Try with 1DIII

I just purchased a used 1DIII, in excellent shape, and gave it a test drive on this Woodpecker in the back yard.
I’ve wanted to try a ‘1 Series’ body for quite a while now and must say I’m very impressed with the build quality and speed of focus/shutter this camera has!
Haven’t had it long enough to compare the IQ of the smaller sensor vs. my ‘5DII’ but looks pretty good so far.
This was also my first attempt at a BIF shot, as is pretty obvious…(got a long ways to go on this technique for sure)
I’m totally lost on all the focus point selections available and what is best to use on BIF shots.
Any advice you guys might have would be much appreciated.
Defiantly got my hands full figuring out all the functions that are available on this thing!....

Very nice job. I love my M3.

I might add, I use single focus point for BIF, using the joystick to tap the single point to the head of the subject while in flight. I do not use surrounding points.

Jim, Lucky Danno has an identity crisis for sure!

Congrats on the MK III body acquisition, I believe you will be doing great things in no time with it Splendid BG's on all three, nice color room to tweak the sharpness IMO.

I like the last shot, fill flash??

I had an 'M' car, would love to have the new 'Z' car but would now like an M-body camera

I use single focus point for BIF, using the joystick to tap the single point to the head of the subject I do this ALL the time, one of the best features of the mk3

Congratulations on the new body Jim These are looking real good already. I'm expecting top notch results from you from here on out Seriously, I am looking forward to seeing your work from this body.

Thanks Karl..... ...I applied sharpening using ‘Nik Sharpener Pro’ and it seemed this was about as far as I could go without causing them to look overly processed...They are all pretty heavily cropped and guessing that was probably part of the problem....
Didn't use flash, just fairly 'harsh' sunlight that might have also contributed in washing out some of the details....

These look very nice Jim... lovely BG's and I like your compositions too.
IF looks pretty good also, and your IF keeper rate will go way up as you practice and learn to really take advantage of the M3's AF system.
Very nice work.
