p.1 #1 · Off shoe flash problem

My 580 EX flash will not fire on my 1D Mark II N via the off-shoe flash cord. The flash fires fine on the hotshoe just fine.

The cord works on my 20D also, so it is not the cord. Do I need to send the camera in?

Anybody had the problem?

Steve

There's nothing in the cord except wire so the problem must be the cord / camera interface. Based on the description I'd check how the cord is seating in to the hot shoe, contacts, etc.

Was it working OK previously? Have you tried M mode on the flash?

My guess is you do not have one or more of the 5 pins lined up.

My suggestions:

1) check the cord with a multi-meter
2) TIghten the screws holding the hot shoe plate on the camera body
3) TIghten the screws holding the hot shoe plate on the off camera cord
