Karl, you've done very well here! Lots of color, good DOF and interesting images all around.

1, 2, and 6 stand out the most to me. Very nice composition in 1 and 6.

I think that I need to head out somewhere for a relaxing trip...!

How are the rest of us ever going to post a flower pic without feeling inferior?

You took the words right out of my mouth. I would replace inferior and somehow incorporate inspiring into your reply though.

Without going into details I like the Orchid (something I would love to try and photograph someday) and the tandem Mums (last image) the most.

40 Years?

Actually Duane as a kid my Dad loved to visit this place. I guess it has stayed in my mind ever since then, I have take my kids and now my grandkids here and I treat myself too By the way I am almost 53 now

Thanks for the word switching, I would really feel awkward it I ever intimidated someone from posting what they like, that would work against the grain for me. There have been many floral posts here this year that have 'inspired' me and your name is in that group Actually I think the 'floralosity' gained some ground this year, yeah!
Thanks buddy!

Fine work, my friend! These are so much more than mere flowers, they're studies in lines, forms and light. My fave is #5 for its simple elegance and the pink/yellow combination, very pleasing to the eye.

Best Wishes,
Steve

Steve, my attendance here on FM has really helped me see more and look carefully for a better BG than I ever did before. The colors and form naturally catch my eye, and seeing the light enhance it puts the icing on the cake!
Interesting pick on #5, it is rather simple, and bold. I have photographed this plant/flower many times never to be happy with my results. Much of making this look like I saw it was in the processing as IMO the digital sensor struggles with floral representation accuracy.
Thanks Steve.......

Way to go Karl, #1 is out of this world. It will make a sensational print. That's a great photo no matter what the subject. I can see your predicament on the first orchid but I think you made a great compromise. Number 4 is the other winner of this set to me. Looks like you did your homework with these. Good job.

Rob

You know Rob, when I walk into this place I never know what the 'theme' is going to be. When I saw about 100 of these potted mums set agaist various BG's I knew I was going to have some fun I am always amazed at the colors nature presents us on critters and flora, what a cool treat either way!

On those orchids they are placed on a shallow rising area and these hang over the greenery under it without much distance, difficult to pick an f/stop to gain detail in the subject yet soften the BG, I play with the DOF button frequently to get me close and often only take one or two shots and move on.

Homework, well lets just say I was due, it doesn't always come together for me but this day had its merits and the nice thing is it is ever changing.

Many thanks for the praise my friend........

Not a chance you're going sneak stinky Blecky flowers by the Zm, Ms. Karl-A

These are all real nice and I'm sure someone is going to like them, not me, but someone

Zoom

Great timing Mr Z as I was just eluding to your call to Socrate, note in post above
I got away with these for a little while at least, stinky, nah but not fragrant either
I sure hope someone likes them Don't let me interfere with any plans to shoot florally while you are with the men Ms ZOOM
Thanks for your continued blechy support buddy!

How cool you have a location nearby that offers such a wonderful variety and a photographer friendly environment. Picks are 1st and last frame in part 1. Bring on part 2

Tom

Thanks Tom, good to hear you enjoyed the colors. This place has been a great Winter get away for years for me. Funny the flowers always seem new and refreshing when I visit, some exotics are most interesting too Thanks for your selections, part 2 to follow soon!

vibrant colors karl. they just pop out of my screen. all are fantastic but my pic is #5. there is something "quiet and wonderful" about that one single flower with the splashes of yellow behind it. reminds me that i need to go shoot my dads' orchids sometime.

I will go with #5 as my pick, Karl. Unless you are keen on the "grainy" look of the BG, I would apply NR just to get a more creamy-looking effect.

Sorry, but the white single mats are not too inspiring. Please produce some complementary-colored double mats in the future.

Part I Oh dear... poor Zm...

#1 is terrific Karl, I love the composition and the burst of color that radiates from the center of that Mum is amazing! Excellent work here buddy.
#2 Orchid is both beautiful and alien looking at the same time, pretty cool. Beautiful colors and patterns, I like it.
#3 Brilliant color, very nice comp, with texture and detail that is touchable. I do find the stem a little distracting, but what are you going to do. Well done.
#4 My second favorite to #1... beautiful color, wonderful comp, and again I love the texture and detail you've captured here for our enjoyment.
#5 Very simple lines and the color just pops off the screen, and I really like the BG here a lot.
#6 Beautiful color once again but this one doesn't work as well for me because of the in focus petals of the BG flower protruding into the middle of the image. They compete for the attention of my eye that I want to focus on the center of the FG Mum. Nit.

That's a lot more than 2 cents worth... go ahead and keep the change.
Beautiful subjects and excellent work buddy, all good for the soul.

Kirk

#3 the stem is there to anchor the flower though attachment is a bit imaginary
#5 glad you like, I at first was going to pass on it but took a liking to it too
#6 I agree and a valid nit!
I will save the 'overage' and kindly return it in the near future my friend
Many thanks for the detailed critique............
Karl
