p.1 #1 · .cr2 files won't open in CS3

I just got a new computer and am working on getting it set up the way I would like it. I installed CS3 and d/l the file that contains the 40D update. That was manually installed as directed in the Adobe readme file about installing it. (link).
However, it still won't open raw files - either in Bridge or CS3.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't found anything through google either.
Thanx,
Ron

This may seem like an obvious question but...have you installed ACR (Adobe Camera Raw?) It's what you need to convert the RAW files before opening in CS3. Alternatively, you can open the RAW files in Canon DPP (my prefered method) and use the trasfer to Photoshop function.

well it should work. are you sure you moved the old .8bi file? did you have PS/Bridge open at the time? did you restart you PC (sometimes helps with issues like this)?

If yes to all above then I would suggest restarting your machine and doing it again . if you still have problems then contact adobe

I can't install ACR - I get an error when I try to auto - install, and that's why I tried to do it manually by moving the old 8BI file and replacing it with the new 8BI file.

Thanx,
Ron

Adobe contacted - they say 3 business days to respond, and it's Friday night....

Have you tried "check for updates" from within CS? CS3 didn't have 40D support - it was added later as part of ACR update.

Yes I have d/l the last update for CS3. I get an error when I try to install it automatically and when I install the files manually, it still doesn't work.

I guess my next step is to uninstall everything and try again...

just a thought but have you tried any of the older updates? 4.2 was the update that had the 40D support so you could start from there.
Just a thought.
Also make sure you are putting the file in the correct place, as if you installed PS twice you could have a bad install that you are updating while you good one resides in a different directory
Just thinking aloud.

Thanx all for the help. I finally figured out the problem. When I checked "preferences" for the 1000th time, I finally noticed that the drop down box was set to "lower case" instead of "upped case". Problem solved
