Small Dusky Blue - Candalides erinus

Very common butterfly in the Brisbane area. Wingspan of around 22mm.

I'm pretty sure this is a juvenile Lauxaniid Fly. Approximately 2mm in body length and sitting on the underside of a magnolia leaf.

What's interesting about this fly is the abnormality on the end of the rear right leg. Or perhaps is was practicing bowling.. who knows.

great image.
It looks like it stubbed its toe and needs to 'bleed' his toe-nail?
If the abnormality had legs, I would think that it was a bloated tick?

Good captures.
Framing on #1 is perhaps a bit tight ?

Suspect it's likely the fly in #2 has trodden in something - BTW you don't really get jouvenile flies- they are adult size when they emerge.

thanks guys.

Brian... thanks for the info .. never knew that. learn something everyday day.

I agree with the tight fill in the frame on the first. Only managed to get a single shot off before it flew away

Bring on tomorrows adventure.

Common all right, rarely still long enough for a shot though.
