Thanks for the comment Morris. I hope between you and me we have proven the 80-400 to be a formidable lens in the right hands

Thanks Tim. I would like to have cropped more but I'm already over a 100%. What I really need is a 500 with TC!!

He just let me hang with him for about 20 minutes. The late afternoon sun had dipped behind a cloud and I'm thinkin "oh great, by the time it comes back out he'll be gone", but he hung around and the sun came back out in time for me to fire off about 50 shots before a ranger came by and scared him off.

OK OK you guys, how's this?? Unfortunately the 80-400 doesn't hold up as well on heavy crops. It

Way too much cropping. You just need to get closer.

Taken with 100-400 and no cropping:

Great shot. Wish I could have gotten that close. Unfortunately it was not an option in this situation. We were seperated by water and silly me forgot to bring a boat. Maybe next time. Also, the 80-400 can't go all the way to 400 without getting soft nor does it take a TC very well. in essence, it's a 350mm.

And besides, I think we've all been guilty of a little overcropping now and again haven't we.

Maybe one day I will get lucky and capture those clasping talons at a closer distance.

In the meantime, how about no cropping at 223mm?

I think that is one heck of good crop Mick, I do think there is some magental showing in your white which also may be muddying up the yellows and the body a bit but heck you got the very most out of that stretch! Now you need a kayak

Best to you on the next outing!

Hey Karl thanks a bunch. I hate cropping so much but you gotta do with what you have sometimes. I do have a kayak but haven't used it for photography yet. Thanks again for the feedback.
