I've used the ST-E2 with 430EX, 420EX and 5DII and it worked great. Clean contacts? Line of sight? Slave mode set on 580EX?
Hmmm.. I will give it a try again, maybe the batt is low ? One strobe set to slave A , another set to slave B, right?
If you put the 580exII flashes in slave mode on the same channel as the ST-E2, with one in Group A and the other in Group B, it should follow the lead of the ST-E2 master.
You might also try using one of the 580exII as Master and the other as slave. That's how I use mine. It provides needed fill and overcomes the inherent range problems of the ST-E2. See this tutorial for step-by-step instructions: LINK
Note if using the 580exII as Master it defaults to Group A and the Slave must be set to Group B via the zoom button.
