p.1 #1 · My large casino boat calender job!

Hi everyone!! As promised, I wanted to post up the shots of the calender we shot for a casino cruise line here in South Florida! It was an UNREAL experience, with shooting times starting at 1-AM and having a departure time of 9:30AM (we had to shoot it when the boat was docked, and not at sea). There was many things I learned during this very complex shoot (took two full days).. and one of the most important things I did learn.. is I will never "under charge" for my service ever again!!

Anyway.. here are the shots.. they may look a bit "off" because there are some trim lines and other guides here for commercial print.. and they may look darker.. but I have many versions but the one that is for print is a different color space.. (oh, and I also learned a lot about converting to CMYK.. and the pain in the @ss that goes with it... ink levels etc... )

Feel free to let me know your thoughts... the final calender will be 12x15. The client is blown away.. as this is and was much more involved then what he / they were expecting...

Thanks for all comments.

Keep in mind too, that NONE of them are professional models.. they are just simple "promo" girls that work on the boat.. and we had no more then 30min per girl to set up lights, and get "the shot" it was CRAZY.

Travis,

You did an impressive job.

Well done!

The costumes are great. I like how their costume designs fit the month.

Good use of the setting too.

Nice colors throughout. The color of the Mermaid image is my favorite.

This is really a nice calendar considering the need, opportunity, and production.

Well done.

I think it is much better than most photographers would do.

I rarely say this, but...."I wish I had done this."

________

Since you probably want more than praise...

I think October is the best image of the set.

I think February is the weakest of the set (due to expression). I would shoot that one over.

I hope these comments help you.

Great job.
The July girl's eye looks a little weird.

Really nice series! I like the lighting and posing. Only minor thing that stands out to me compared to the rest of the models... Feb.... she looks super stiff... and the expression... doesn't go well with the other girls IMO. I could be wrong... interested in what others think.

Still.... very nice job!

September!

You did a fantastic job. I think that March is the weakest. Something looks off about that one. The lighting in this set is amazing. I can tell that it was alot of hard work. You have something to be very proud of here.

Thanks everyone!

@ Hatch - Yeah, FEB was stiff... .. she actually emailed me the week before the shoot.. and wanted to know if she "had" to wear the "stripper" style shoes... I told her that this is what the client is wanting.. and she would need to talk to him... She had some issues from the start.. and I think that also translated on film.. I wish I had more time with her.. cause I really like this shot (what it could have been).. but.. it was the one the client picked from the proofs.. (there is another one that might be much better... I am working on that one for my portfolio... hehehe).

@ Kelly - You are exactly correct.. March was the weakest.. talk about getting NOTHING from a "model". .. absolutely no expression, and everything looked the same.. I would have her relax, shake it off.. walk around.. tell jokes.. make compliments.. my gosh.. nothing.. my only hope here was to make some nice distractions in post on the BG.. ; )

Nice job Travis - really nice poses and colors.

March is either a really large person or that is a really small basketball?

There seems to be a consistent fall off of your light towards the bottom of most of the images. Was this by design?

Congrats on the gig. You are on your way to bigger and better projects I am sure.

Thanks Ed!

Yep, she was very tall at 5'11 (no shoes)! The b-ball was one of the "mini ones".. creative director <cough, cough> : )

Yep the light fall off was either the use of my grids.. or it was done in post.. I know it's subjective.. but I wanted it to all look the same through out.. in some shots it is really helping keep the focus on the face and not other distractions..

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Hopefully this will lead to more sales... I can't wait to get my hands on the final product!!

you say "underpaid"

would it be obtuse to ask what you charged for this?

Nice looking images!

I hope that the Casino gets permission from either the NCAA or IHSA before running that March Madness image - they tend to be a bit aggressive about protecting their trademark cash cow...

I would love to know (as a open forum) what everyone thinks I should have charged for something like this?

What were you responsible for make-up, costumes, hair, models, art direction?
