I'm not a fan of Wiki for facts but that stat of Europe vs Canada square klicks, does it include Russia?
If you're really cheap? Get an old Canon EF 28-80 II lens that came with the Rebel series. May have been called KISS in Europe?
A little more money to spend? 28-105 non-IS lens. Small, yet nice quality.
Even more money to spend? 28-135 IS lens. Nice quality and you get IS.
Burning a hole in your pocket? 24-105 L lens. Stealth L lens. It's a black body.
Rich relative left you everything? 24-70 ƒ/2.8 lens. Shoot wide open and tell everyone it's SUPPOSED to be out of focus.

+1 for the 24-105 f4 IS, which is an excellent general purpose lens for the 5D. Of course, another popular option is the 24-70 f2.8. If you want something less expensive, maybe a Tamron 28-75 f2.8.

Thanks for your reply, I didn't think about the 28-105. Not used to these lenses anymore after 8 years of cropped-sensor
I have both the 24-70 F2.8 and the 24-105 F4.0. For overall image quality, I would pick my 24-70. However for more reach and lighter weight, I carry the 24-105 more often than the 24-70.
Do you have a budget? I see you asking about gear frequently on the board, giving me the impression that you have a lot to spend on this. If so, just get the 24-70 F/2.8 and be done with it.
If not, get either the 28-135 or 28-105 (each can be had for $250 or less) and be happy until you have the cash to get more.
Or maybe get a 24-85 f/3.5-4.5. They can be had for cheap at KEH (I'd love to get the silver version because it's so different )

It's true that 2.8 is nice, but IS too when will Canon bring a 24-70 2.8L IS?? could be nice...
Yep it's true, I'm asking quite frequently it's just that I have been rethinking about all my gear as I have some assignments. I've been investing in the 1Ds and 5D to prepare for a trip to Vietnam to photograph for an NGO helping people there. And I wanted full frame to make nice portraits. I sold my cropped bodies except the 1DII and 1DIIn that I want to keep for my wildlife pics.
However, getting into full-framed bodies means also rethinking the lenses.

I'm surprised that Tamron hasn't released a 28-75 f/2.8 VR and beat Canon to the punch. The 28-75 has a great reputation; add VR at a reasonable price and Canon would have some real competition.
