I have a few suggestions for you. First one is to get in closer, maybe crop around the action in the first shot. The second is to figure out the right white balance for your arena. Your white balance seems to be off as does your exposure. A few tips for hockey are to overexpose when you are pointing at the ice (the white makes the camera think everything is lighter than it is). I like the third shot, really interesting. If I were to make one suggestion on the third one I'd recommend maybe using a polarizer to fight off the reflection. Third shot is a perfect shot for black and white though, great choice.

p.1 #4 · A little hockey

Hi there,

#1) Not sure what's going on here, but the black's are totally gone. I'm guessing the histogram on these are way to the left. Try exposing to the right. <RANT> Interestingly enough, I'm more concerned for the little boys with their face up to the glass above the Pepsi sign. I wish parents would take more interest in their kids at the rink. I've seen first hand what happens when a kid has their face\hands pressed up against the glass. Glass wins every time... </RANT> Back to the photo. Very uninteresting for hockey. No puck, no faces, no expressions... Not that these are hard rules for hockey.

#2) There is those damn kids again... Well there is a puck, but again way too dark.

#3) Lifestyle pics are great. However you just missed this one. A little more eyes please. Also, looking at the ceiling, would be get to bounce a flash off. I've had some success bouncing a Canon 580EX full power in manual off a tin foil roof to shed some light. Light is everything. If you don't good light, crank up the ISO...

I didn't check the EXIF, but curious on the gear taking these pics... Try a little more zoom. Wide is great when the action is right in front of you.

Ask yourself this when posting or keeping pictures. Is it salable? If that was your kid in the picture would you buy it? I know some parents will buy anything, but would you feel proud selling it... I'm also not suggesting that you're making a living selling pictures, just if you were, what would your standards be?
