Every time I get my hands on a new body with higher pixel density I like to photograph the moon with it. I've been looking forward to trying it with the 7D. The phase isn't ideal (its a little too full, but oh well). Taken with the 800 + 1.4x TC.

The detail is pretty decent. The image has been processed (some curves, sharpening, micro contrast enhancement). There is some color noise visible, I killed all NR in DPP, maybe I shouldn't have done that.

HOLY CRAP!!!!

That is one killer shot. Plus, the Moon is reversed in the Southern Hemisphere, as to how we view it here, in the Northern Hemisphere.

Yea cool about the shadow how its reversed...not exactly sure about the geometry of that but the moon always makes a great subject.

Cool, it's prompted me to try the 7D + 500 + 1.4x + 2x tonight. I've done that on the 40D already as seen here and it worked well. This is a very light crop as it almost fills the frame. It'll be interesting to see how the 7D performs. Although it's windy so not the best seeing conditions.

Very nice - very nice detail. I can't wait to tug the old 400 out along with a teleconverter or two. That is exceptionally crisp, Mr. Bean.

Looks like a few good moon shots here - nice pics, folks.

I did manage to snag a handheld moon shot with my 7D and 100-400 the other night. The old zoom just doesn't do it justice like the big primes do, though. 100% cropping makes for a tough challenge, especially with this lens...

Mooning time

When you spend a minute on each, all these impressive images are indeed different in their expression as well

Haven't had any crisp nights for moonshots with my 7D yet, so I post an old one with 40D, 300/2.8 + 2x + 1.4x + 1.4x. (1200 mm) The crop is even interpolated(!) to allow for direct coparison with thedigitalbean's 800+1.4x on the 7D. As you can see, it is not even close in detail and sharpness, but considering this is a 300mm lens....

Has anyone tried digital imaging the moon with a dedicated "digiscope?"
