This type of Marsh is known as Marl (lime rich mud or mudstone), Prairie. It stretches for miles as do the wetter Everglades prairies, and although this has a bleak appearance it supports many varieties of grass along with a short version of sawgrass. I do seem to notice some lgihtness right at the boundary of the far trees and the horizon - is this perhaps an HDR shot? I see this sometimes when I am doing HDR stuff myself.
