Here is a flower shot using the tilt action to get the numerous center smaller stalks in focus resulting in pretty much blury rendition of the petals above, which are not the center of attention anyway. Actually, this is not a special shot but the desired effect could can only be done with a TS-E lens. With a regular lens you would have to tilt the entire camera/lens combo and you would have moved the setup up to center the flower to get a similar DOF but the petals would have covered much of the center area of the flower by that action.

As far as Liveview concerned, I am afraid that only the newer cameras are better suitable for focusing, such as the 5D Mark II and 7D. In that respect, even the 1Ds Mark III is left behind. That Canon did not put in a high resolution LCD on its flagship camera, although it was readily available at that time, was beyond me. Trying to save a few bucks, I guess. Shame, shame, shame... .
