Hello Folks,

Today I put my hands on a used 7D. I will be testing the camera for about a week.

These images were processed like I normally do with any of my images. Noise reduction, saturation and sharpening were applied. Very little cropping and all in Manual mode.

As I expected, a lot has to do with technique and knowledge.

UPDATE - 10.14.09

There are several folks questioning if the 7D can focus well during busy backgrounds. I don't know about your images or style, but these few images backgrounds are as busy as Manhattan during New Years. These are by FAR the worse images I've taken, luckily it was on PURPOSE and for a test

- All with the Canon 400mm F/5.6 L lens.

Busy Backgrounds

My comment was directed at the fact that your posting above included not one, but two links to advertisements, one for your newsletter and the other for your website, which features a big fat flyer for your seminars.

Furthermore, one of his (free) newsletters contains more substantive info than you've posted in your 7600 posts.

I'm pretty new to FM and not familiar with Maxis work, very nice images. I also enjoyed viewing your gallarys and work shop information and signed up for the news letter. Looks very informative. I mainly shoot action sports but have been bitten lately by the wildlife bug.

Seems to hold its own and the exposure on the whites in the lighting appears well contained.

So what are your real 1st impressions besides it requires good techique and knowlege? I've got those and want to know about real world performance, say compared to a 1D Mark III.

Are you going to use it for video work and have you tried that feature yet? Would love to see how it handles traking BIFs in video mode.

Hi Ken,

It’s too early for me to jump to conclusions. I just got the camera yesterday; I rather wait until I finish using the camera. With that said, the Canon 7D is not a 1D body and should not be compared as such. It’s not fair. The 7D is in a class of its own and the beginning to a new dSLR series.

I will dedicate a newsletter just for my final review.

Yes, I will be using the HD video feature as well. I’m slowly but surely getting more into editing video and looking forward to more.

Hi Maxis, #4 looks particularly good to me. It can be hard to get those whites properly exposed in bright lighting situations.

I am definitely interested in hearing the reactions of people who have tried out the 7D, as I anticipate getting my own soon.
