These samples have pretty much sealed the deal for me. I'm going to trade my 1DMkII for a 7D this week. Thanks for posting them.

Indeed I am and very happy about it (although I haven't sold my 50D yet)

But I think it's a very good move for a sport shooter (which I'm definitely not)

I am a sports shooter and as long as the AF can keep up then I'm sold. I guess the AF won't be 1D class but if it's close then that's OK. I expect that there are going to be a lot of part time sports shooters and DWC's with too much money who will pair this body with a 70-200/4 and get themselves a very capable sports setup. Throw in the 300/4 and/or 400/5.6 and there will soon be a lot more weekend warrior sports shooters out there.

It's incredible what the manufacturers can now do in such a small sensor, the 7D would be very tempting if I did the kind of things it's good at. I'm sure the next 5D will be along those lines and all the better for it with the new focusing system.

I'd find the internal level REALLY useful too, the hotshoe mounted ones aren't always that accurate

I just sold my 5D classic this morning (in order to pay in part for the 7D), but have felt somewhat sad for its departure all day. Your post have lifted my spirit again, so thanks a lot for it!

I thought there was a huge debate/hand wringing over the fact that the 7D did NOT allow you to swap viewing screens?

Treason...maybe, I can handle the flames.

My 1DII has served me well but I need to shift it while it still has some residual value. If I keep it until the MkIV is announced, its value will drop further so I think now is the time for it to go. I'll give the 7D a test drive first but if it produces the goods then it's a done deal.
Interesting. For not too much more (assuming you buy the 7D with grip), you could have a used 1DIII instead (US prices). Sounds like you both feel the 7D isn't giving up too much to the MkIII.

I'm wrestling with the same question, i.e. used MkIII or the 7D. Leaning towards the 7D, although I'd like to see more low-light AI Servo examples of the 7D AF (for ISO3200 & 6400 ice hockey).
