Full frame 7D = 3D. The camera I've been waiting for Canon to build for 2 years now.
Fortunately I stopped holding my breath some time ago.
you can keep waiting....3D will never happen. IF you want professional grade AF on FF? they have the 1Ds series, if it's too expensive then they have the 5 series. a FF with 7D AF system will certainly kill the sales on both 5 series and the 1Ds series....Canon ain't going to let that happen!!
Perhaps so - but then why does Nikon have no problem putting pro level features and auto focus on a non pro camera? All I'm asking is that Canon do the same as Nikon.
There is room in the market and Canon's lineup for a model between the 1Ds- and 5D-series, and FF body with 7D features would appear to be the ideal candidate, at least on paper.
There is also a market for a "less" AF capable FF like the 5D-series, since not everyone using FF is willing to pay the premium on these "extras". I could think of those who use mainly MF lenses, or who use FF mainly for landscapes, or those who simply want FF, but at relatively low cost.

It's too big and heavy, crappy LCD, inconsistent AF, and costs nearly $7K.
Hmmm, what is heavier/bigger... a 1Ds3 + 50 1.4 or a 5D2 + 500 f/4?
The AF can be inconsistent on any Canon body. But my current 1Ds3 has the most consistent AF I have ever experienced in a DSLR. It kicks the 5D2's ass when it comes to general accuracy with outer AF points, large apertures and tracking. No comparison really. And yes, I use both.
I think the 1Ds3 isn't 7K anymore... besides, you can always get them used. Since they are built to last, that is a very good option. Especially when the 1Ds4 gets announced.
Sure, the LCD has less dots than on the 5D2, but when you crank up the in-camera sharpening to +7, it will show you plenty of detail to judge focus. Besides, the LCD on my 1Ds3 has no color cast like on my 5D2.
The only two things that really bother me sometimes about the 1Ds3 are the shallow RAW buffer and the delayed playback times. LCD playback is much quicker on the 5D2.
I bet the 5D3 will, like the 7D, have no usable manual focus screen. If that's the case I will probably start switching away from Canon, as it will finally prove to me that Canon is not interested in providing the best tools for real photographers.

What's a real photographer?!?
Is that something different from a profesional?
Does having a different focus screen make your gear more profesional?
Do you mean you'd miss something like a split prism, which indeed is a nice to have with manual focus lenses.
If true, I hope they keep the 5D3 at 21MP, with improved high ISO and all the 7D goodies. Since the 7D can output 144MP/sec (8x18MP), they could, in theory, make a 6.8 fps 21MP camera.
It is likely that Digic V will be seen in a 5DIII, with dedicated video processing to eliminate aliasing / jagging.
The question is, will there be dual Digic V's in a 5DIII?
That would in fact enable a new camera to have both high resolution and high frame rate. Like in the 7D, where the frame rate is in reality limited by the power supply and mirror assembly. (Single Digic IV in 50D: 95 MB/sec, Dual Digic IV in 7D: 144 MB/sec)

I really hope they don't go there. I would think that Canon would recognize that FF cameras are very popular for MF.
if canon would just take the nikon d3s and make it into the the canon 3D people would be all over it..i'm a canon shooter and always have been but my opinion is nikon is just building cameras that photographers are asking for. what more can you want from a nikon d3s? put a canon sensor on that sucker and call it canon 3D and bam you have got millions of happy canon customers..do get me wrong, i'm happy with my 5d mk2. but just like many of you on this forum I wish my 5dmk2 focused like the d3.
