Anyone have an issue where Canon DPP not working on MAC OS 10.6? This is the new Snow Leopard system. Just got a new Macbook and I get an error everytime I go to the DPP preferences menu. It gives me a generic error "An error occurred. Digital Photo Profesional will be closed." and then exits. I tried DPP 2.2.2 up to the current 3.6 version. I even removed and reinstalled.

DPP should work fine with Snow Leopard. You may want to try deleting your DPP preferences:

Quit DPP if it's running.
In your home folder, open your Library folder.
Then open your Preferences folder.

In that folder will be two preference files for DPP:
* com.canon.Digital Photo Professional.plist
* com.canon.Digital Photo Professional Batch.plist

Delete them both and empty the trash.

thx for the suggestion deleting the preferences. I tried deleting the preference file but that didn't work also. I noticed I have only 1 preference file, * com.canon.Digital Photo Professional.plist. I don't have the 2nd one even for DPP 3.6. I'm wondering if the 2nd missing file is the issue. I even created another user thinking it may work but it didn't work.

hmmm, any other possible was to fix this? thx.

For anyone thats interested, I found this thread on the apple forum. DPP and 10.6 do not work.

Also, I confirmed that Snow Leopard and DPP doesn't work. Since my MBP was new (I waited for the new OS), I just reinstalled the OS and immediately installed DPP 3.5 afterwards, it didn't work. I then upgraded to 3.6 (latest version) and still the preferences didn't work.

Hopefully this saves someone some time.

That really bites since DPP is a big part of my workflow

I have read that there are also problems with Canon IPF printer drivers on Snow Leopard. I was not aware that DPP did not work.

DPP 3.6.1.0 runs fine on my Snow Leopard OS 10.6

No problems with DPP Preferences.

Running a MacPro. This issue apparently affects some, but obviously not all, instances of OS 10.6

Just loaded DPP 3.6.2 a and that runs fine also. No problems opening and changing DPP Preferences.

Jim, was your Snow Leopard a new install or an upgrade? Mine was a new install for a Macbook pro. I installed 3.5 right after to install and then upgraded to 3.6.2a. Maybe I have to go from 10.5x to 10.6

Although I have a copy of Snow Leopard on my desk as I write this, my afternoon reading at the Apple website has diminished my enthusiasm for installing the disk at the moment. At the moment, I'm researching the various pieces of software and hardware I use to determine what will work and what will not. Only after I'm clear on that matter can I make an informed decision about what I'm willing to lose in order to have 10.6 installed. Early adopters are always the guinea pigs when it comes to operating system upgrades. So keep reporting your experience everyone and I'll keep waiting...

hmmm, someone on the apple forum had no problems also and theirs was an upgrade too. Mine is a new install since I waited for SL to release before buying the macbook. I wonder if that's it...................

I actually updated to 10.6.1 and DPP is still broken

I guess we'll have to rely on Canon to deal with the problem... At the moment I'm not using DPP, so personally it is not a problem. I understand the usefulness of the program, however, especially for those not inclined to spend the big bucks for an Adobe product. Good luck to everyone awaiting a solution to this particular conundrum...

Yep, seems like a canon problem. My Adobe Lightroom and PS CS4 seem to work fine so no real worries there.

I upgraded to 10.6 on the day it came out. While I still can't find a way to use my Epson printer I have had no problems with DPP. Of course the fact that I can't print from PS, Aperture or Lightroom sort of negates any benefit from having DPP working. Upgrade to 10.6.1 had no benefit. Really wish i'd waited to upgrade until the problems were solved but it's Apple so I didn't expect problems like this. I think my problem is Epson's failure to write drivers for SL even tho I did read that they had been provided info a yr. ago. Don't know if that's true but lack of this printer sure makes me unhappy.

Yeah, I haven't really tested the printer drivers yet. I did do the 10.6.1 upgrade and that broke something in my networks setting. I can't see any vista machines and mount any vista shares but I can share win XP shares. Strange

I concluded it was the 10.6.1 update. I had to blow away the OS again (since I didn't back it up) and reinstall 10.6. I'm sooo tempted to go with 10.5.x but this is a new macbook pro. Then I can access my vista shares. 10.6 is really becoming a big mess. Reminds me of the old days when microsoft released windows 95 and that was a mess. I tell my friends to be very careful with 10.6

I am using 10.6 (upgrade from 10.5.6) and DPP works fine but it quits if I try to go into Preferences, doesn't really bother me as I don't need to go into prefs.

I had this problem with a brand new Mac Pro. I tried deleting the preferences but that didn't fix it. Someone uploaded a preferences file from a working copy, and I downloaded that and installed that in my preferences folder and bingo! I can't for the life of me see why a freshly generated preferences file would block modification by the programme that created it whereas somebody else's preferences file worked fine. Actually, thinking about this, it may well be that the fresh preferences file is created with the wrong file permissions, and Disk Utilities 'Repair permissions' (which I had tried) doesn't fix it. That could explain why somebody else's more promiscuous preferences file DL'ed off the web might fix this.

If anybody wants to try to fix this with my working prefs file, I have uploaded it here:
