Gee a business owner that wants to sell his product. That takes alot of nerve.
You showed him how you feel by not buying his gear anymore, and so you should. But now you jump on this thread to bad mouth him? Now who's the bully?
Notice that this thread was started by, and continued by people who like his new PLM's? Why are you here? Just to stir up arguments and get this thread locked? I like having Paul here, even if I don't always approve of what he says, he has a right to say it, and most of his comments are friendly and helpful.
The last time i checked, this was still Fred Miranda's site, not Deezie's

Nor is it Paul's site, nor is it your site. And if Fred isn't saying anything to the contrary, wouldn't that suggest that Darryl's comments are just as welcome and valid as Paul's or yours or mine?

Holy mother of pearl... here we sit again... another bitch session....

Is there any hope now or in the future to keep a review thread on track? Post samples... voice your opinion about the product(not so much the owner of the company) so in the off chance people like myself who are interested in "real world" results can make a sound choice to buy or not to buy? Yes...super run on sentence

I propose a new thread should be started ... I Love/Hate Paul Buff and why.... this way the everyone can fight on that thread and leave the informational threads alone.

Now you have me bitching about the bitching.... son of a!!!

Back on track please... please.... please...

It would be great to see more samples of the PLM's in action.

Dear Friends

I've replaced my 7' Photoflex OctoDome with Paul's 86" white parabolic umbrella with the black spill-kill fabric. The other lights remain the same: B800 with gridded stripbox overhead and B400 with 20-degree gridded reflector at camera-right rear. Paul's big circular reflector is mounted on a stand camera-right.

I've been steaming the muslin and waiting for my wife and son. I hope to get some images tonight, but I'm not making any promises. I'm looking forward to figuring out the differences in light between the OctoDome and Paul's white PLM configured as a Japanese lantern.

Hatch, your suggestion is dead-on!

One good thing about trying Paul's new parabolics is that it doesn't break the bank to try them out for yourself. Then you'll know first-hand what they do for you. Paul's (overly generous, in my opinion) two-friggin'-month satisfaction guarantee makes it a no-brainer.

i've been having lots of fun with my 86" and my 42" silver PLMs. It is not just Paul Buff who is inspiring, Ellis Vener posted a PLM shot that compelled me to get a Zeus. i'm learning how to light waterfalls.
here is a 4 shot pano using my Uni400 @320 with the 42" that i shot yesterday.

Dear Friends

Here are three unedited images (plus a setup shot) from tonight's session in which everything is the same as last night (those images appear in a previous post in this thread) except Paul's 86" white PLM with the black spill-kill fabric is used in place of the 7' Photoflex OctoDome.

My first observation is the white parabolic with black spill-kill fabric is less focused that the OctoDome, which is a good thing when shooting a subject who's on the move.

I'm trying to scare up a prospective model who'll be still for me, and if I'm successful I'll try both the OctoDome and Paul's new parabolic with her.

My rear kicker is too hot, so I'll fix that in future shoots.

V21 firmware is due tomorrow. V20 works about 98%. About the only problems in V20 are occasional amnesia regarding a couple of parameters.

Wow...how high was that raised? Looks like it's up at least 10'..
Nice framing on that first shot w/ the roof lighting grid and the instruments on the 2nd shot.
