Let's wait and see until it's actually released. I have the feeling prices will drop significantly after a few months. In these days of disposable digital bodies, I can hardly see that many people rushing to buy it, even though the glass is certainly worth it.

I think Leica will probably ship in Oct., as they say, although the quantities may certainly be limited.

The glass doesn't seem too obscene in cost, compared to the body.

Agreed about the glass, but my point is that it can hardly be called Medium Format, with it's mere 1.25x factor over 35mm. I'm not sure if any of the MF advantages will be visible with this camera, as it will tend to behave very similarly to a FF 35mm with 3x-5x the price.

I just can't see people spending the kind of money on this system when you can get a Phase One P45+ for the same price and much cheaper lenses (of similar quality)...and a bigger sensor. But perhaps the lenses (as usual) will drive this train. Then again, I'm not a pro who needs this kind of resolution.

Lol I doubt adaptation will be easy Andreas, considering they have electronic aperture.

Ronan, a lot of kneejerk venomous reactions at the high price. Time will tell if their target market (a majority of which won't browse forums) pick them up. For big studios the cost isn't too high, but this isn't a camera for the budding amateur or solo professional.

I went to one of Martin Parr's exhibitions not long ago. The prints were 1.5mX1m and bitingly sharp and full of details, I mean the guy is notoriously anal with image quality (which is very funny considering what he shoots but thats another story for another day). He said he had used a 5D with a Canon 35/2 and a ringflash and I think this would pretty much cover my wildest printing dreams.

Parr's prints were selling for $20k each by the way, frame not included.

And that's what's going to kill the S2. Leica simply doesn't have the professional service support structure the big studios want and need and for studio work the S2 is significantly inferior in capability to similar-cost MFDB solutions. If you're shooting studio work why would you take the Leica over H3DII or a P45+or P65+ on a H2D or 645AFDIII (or RB/RZ). The other options are cheaper and significantly more future proof since the imaging system and camera are independently upgradeable (At least with the PhaseOne or Sinar solutions)

The S2 is clearly designed as an outdoor camera (sealing, small size, 35mm-esque handling). I suspect it will prove most popular with well-heeled amateur and semi-pro landscape shooters who like the combination of high resolution, weather sealing and small size.
