p.1 #1 · Colour Management Book

Hi guys,

I think I've got a medium level handle on colour management, but I'd like to improve this aspect of my workflow, learning things I've picked up along the way from the ground up so I have a solid understanding where nothing is based or assumed on partly-understood or rocky foundations. To this end can anyone recommend a good reference book that takes me through everything that a photographer needs to know about colour management? By this I mean:

- Colour Space
- Working Spaces
- Monitor Calibration
- ICC Profiles
- Printer Calibration

The works basically! I am looking into getting an Epson 3800 or it's replacement and know that I need to calibrate my iMac (probably using ColorEyes and a calibrator like the i1) but wish to know more.

Any help on this issue would be welcomed with open arms, a good reference guide with a knowledgeable author singing from the same sheet on every page would be invaluable in a world where so often people seem to have conflicting views - generally based on limited understanding!

"Color Management for Photographers", Andrew Rodney, I think is the most concise book on the subject.

Real World Color Management by Bruce Fraser, Chris Murphy, and Fred Bunting is the bible we all grew up in back in the day (early life of learning digital dSLR's when they came out.

I notice the 2nd edition, circa 2004 is still the latest. The information, however, is timeless except that newer books will likely have some information on the newer tools, and the market of colorimeters and photospectrometers and profiling / editing software has come a long way since then. On the other hand, I have a sneaking suspicion the authors of the newer books started out with Real World themselves...
