Just wanted to run past you wise old(perhaps?) men(and women) regarding an Olympus deal I am considering. All includes following items (in very good condition apparently)
Olympus OM-2n black
Olympus OM-2n silver
Flash T-32
Lense:
Olympus OM 50mm 1:1.8 + filter
Olympus OM 35mm 1:2.8
Olympus OM 35-70 1:4
Olympus OM 135 mm 1:3.5 Tele.
Olympus OM 28mm 1:2.8
Soligor 200mm 1:3.5
Sigma Multi-coated 80-200mm 1:3.5-4 + filter
Makinon Multi-coated 28mm 2.8 + filter.
Teleconverter 2x Kenko
Set of macro rings 12+20+36mm
All going for USD630 (GBP380, AUD800)
Any suggestions or thoughts? Well, obviously moldy and scratched items are off the map. Lose/tight rings are not difficult to adjust?
Also, how well does 35-70mm f4 perform compared to 3.6 version?
Can always try to bargain....
Well, I had a look at the prices on OM lenses before, and for instance the 50mm f1.8 is roughly USD75 and 135mm f3.5 is about USD150.
Haven't seen any cheaper deals.
So, what would you consider be a good deal? Or atleast fair deal..
Edit: just had a look at ebay and combined all the items. Turns out to be roughly in GBP340 (USD590?) area...including deliveries...
that does seem fairly high, in my opinion also. You could find better deals on ebay, even. None of those lenses are particularly desireable, in the world of OM glass.
Thank you very much for the advise. I skip those.
Although, to be fair I have seen quite a few positive comments regarding the lenses such as 135mm f3.5 and 28m f2.8 listed here, but paying to much for those is not really on the cards.
Seems high to me as well. A few of those items are virtually worthless. A Makinon Multi-coated 28mm 2.8 + filter isn't worth the space it takes up -- especially with the Oly 28mm next to it.
Yeah, that seems high to me too. They aren't particularly special lenses, and even if you may be able to find ebay auctions that total up to the asking price, in general when you find a whole system like that you can buy it at a significant discount over the parting-out price. I might expect to see a lot like this go for $300-$400 in a typical auction, give or take another $100 depending on the phase of the moon and the direction of the wind that day
I picked up an Oly 135 3.5 in great condition for around $35 off Craigslist. It has nice colors and a long mfd (around 5 feet) ... as noted by another FMer it might make an okay flower lens (I'm trying to use it with tubes to get around the mfd issue) ... something fun to play around with for little money. Pretty good, but not a prized keeper or anything I expect to have any resale value or for anyone else to come looking for.
As for the 28mm Oly, I picked up a 24mm 2.8 (very nice lens) for around $100, KEH usually has one for around 125-150. I also have an Oly 21mm 3.5 that I picked up after it. Those two are close together ... but they have their individual characteristics that have me keeping them both (although I could find a buyer rather easily for either / both).
It sounds like a lot of 'stuff' for the money, but I think that's mostly what it is ... a lot of 'stuff'. Also, there's quite a bit of overlap in focal lengths. Overlap with great glass of different characteristics is one thing, overlap of mediocre glass just takes up room in your bag, is heavier to carry & ties up more of you money (been there, done that .
Instead, I'd spend the money picking out individual pieces that are known performers ... and have desire / resale value, as well as fit your shooting needs / style.
As noted ... check www.keh.com for some perspective on pricing.
