p.1 #1 · Selling Stock Photography

I'm researching this, been shooting about a year and a half and I want to start selling some of my images. Which agencies are you guys using, any suggestions for a newbie like me.

Thanks

Josh

ps- I'm looking at iStockPhoto a subsidiary of Getty.

I would suggest that you sign up with iStock and see if you are accepted. It is free and their screening process will give you a good idea as to whether or not your images are of a high enough quality and unique enough to use as stock. You should also read their tutorials that they have on stock photography which will give you a head start on stock. Their requirements are very similar to other stock house as far as quality and content.

For stock, quality is always important, but I find it that content and wide usage/purchase by the end users to be most important. Look at the stock galleries and see what is selling. You may find that although you are a great photographer, the stock "style" may not be to your liking.

Good luck!

Joe

What Joe said.

If it still looks good to you after the above, try a book called "How to Shoot Stock Photos That Sell" by Michal Heron. Some parts of it are a bit dated, as the industry is changing rapidly. However, his basic approach to shooting stock is still sound. Worth a look.
