p.1 #1 · 105DC for Wedding?

To all you wedding shooters, how does the 105DC handle weddings? I guess I am most interested in Autofocus speed as I have read and heard the image quality is on time. I currently use a Tamron 70-200 but the auto focus speed has pushed me to look into other options. I shoot all primes except that so I am naturally looking at a prime or the 70-200 VR to replace the Tamron. Additionally I currently shoot D300 but will be going FX in the next couple of months. Thanks for any help!

maybe not the answer you'd want to hear but after doing weddings for a few years i think that personally i would be much happier with a 70-200VR. i have one, find it versatile, fast, has great focus speed and the IQ is fantastic. also, OOF is very creamy which i have to admit was a deal clencher for me.

If you want speedy AF the 70-200VR is the lens for you.

I kinda agree here with one caveat.. the 105 isnt that much faster than the 70-200, so I use the 70-200 when I need 105mm, on the other hand, the 85 1.4 is so much faster that it has a different purpose. I find the 85, 70-200 combo to be better than the 105.

I'd rather use a 135, unless you're using a D3/x/700.

I used the 105DC at weddings. It was very nice shooting at F2.8-4. I could use it in the house for headshots at the windowlight and at the reception for dancing shots. It worked well for the ceremony from center aisle. I was not thrilled with the bokeh as I expected outstanding results there and I did not see it. I had a lot of money tied up in that lens so I sold it and bought the 85mm F1.8, which I use today.
