p.1 #1 · D700 P Err

D700 arrived and I was excited to try out the infamous camera. I was rather welcomed by P Err. I could use the menu, but it won't focus or shoot. Took out the battery and re-inserted, and it seems gone but it's dishearting. Is it something that I should be concerned about? Anyone know the possible causes?

What Zachs said!

If you're using old lenses, the aperture needs to be locked on the minimum number(wide open). There is an aperture ring at the bottom of the lens. Try it, should be fine!

I was setting up without any lens attached, and then attached 70-300 VR. P Err started to happen until pull the battery and inserted back in. "Err" was flashing. It seems ok now though

Usually the camera displays FEE for this though.

Not if it's a brand new camera.

Just send it back and get a new one, 99%sure you would be fine with that one but just 4 your own peace of mind. Mine had a contact error after about 10,000 shots cleaned the contacts and good to go for the last 3 months. But on a brand new camera dirty contacts do not sound like the issue.

Turn the camera off before removing or replacing a lens.

Just had the same problem with my d700
but the "problem" was the setting on the lens aperture
nothing wrong with the camera.
