I'm considering picking up a used 17-55 f/2.8 from someone locally. Assuming its in excellent shape what would you say a decent going price is for this right now? One of my only concerns is if eventually down the road once full frame becomes less expensive and more standard will the value of these DX lenses plummet? Any thoughts?
I'm also considering selling my Tokina 12-24 (the older model), whats an average price for it in excellent shape?
Also check used prices at KEH.com (will be on the high end, but you'll see the range based on condition). And it never hurts to do an advanced search for completed auctions on eBay.
Average price I would say is $850-900 as of now. I recently sold mine for $900... or was it $950? Think I bought it for $850 before the price hike and after the D700 was release, people went on a FX frenzy.
The thing with most pro lenses are that they don't drop too much in value. I would suggest finding one on FM and buying it because most people take very good care of their stuff on here.
Oh yeah, I would suggest using bing.com to buy anything from eBay to save 8%.
trade in is 800 (I just checked at 2 vastly different and reputable places) and so private ought to be higher than that. I have been looking and would say 800 for a "beater" sold privately, 950 for a virtually new one, and anything in between. Stores are asking up to 1150-1200 for used ones and though I can't imagine they get that much, even at 950 it is not a bad deal if if it is in perfect shape.
