p.1 #1 · Pocket wizard and Sekonic help

Just picked up a Sekonic l-558R with the module to fire pocket wizards. I spend last night trying to trigger my Flex5's and was unable to get them to fire. I tried all the channels and still nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? I have gone thru the guide step by step and also been able to fire off some pocket wizard plus 2's but nothing on the flex 5's. Does anyone else have this setup and if so would you be willing to provide me your settings for the flex 5. The only thing I can think of is I am setting something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably don't have it in the correct mode. You need to make sure the sekonic is in remote firing mode.

repdomman, have you solved the problem yet?

In case you haven't, let me tell you a couple of things which might help...

First of all, if your intent is to use ETTL flash mode (with a MiniTT1 or FlexTT5 on the camera and a FlexTT5 on the flash(es)) then the receiving FlexTT5 MUST be using one of the new ControlTL Rx channels. Your older PW's and the module in the Sekonic meter does NOT have these channels.

And if you ARE using ETTL, then you really don't need to use your flash meter anyway, as the flash output will be controlled (and will vary) by the ETTL system.

If you are NOT trying to shoot in ETTL mode but rather in manual mode, that is when a flash meter is useful (I would say needed). That means you MUST set the FlexTT5 to use a "standard" Rx channel (NOT a ControlTL channel) and it must be the same channel as your meter PW module is set to.

If you use a MiniTT1 on the camera, it can be set to send BOTH a standard and a ControlTL channel at the same time, but the FlexTT5 can only RECEIVE one of those at a time.

The way I handle this is to set my C1 configuration for ETTL using a ControlTL Rx channel on the FlexTT5 and my C2 configuration for manual flash use, using a standard Rx channel on the FlexTT5.

I hope this is of help to you...

Thanks so much. I got everything working last night. It would be nice if sekonic and pocket wizard made it a little easier to understand that. Thanks again for the help.
