Thanks Jim and Steady. Jury is still out on adding it to the shopping list. Only warned for people sick of seeing kid shots. Might stick with the 135L for these applications, but the speed of the 1.2 is a nice addition! Used it for some night shots lit by a fire pit and was happy with the results.

Nice shot, but in my opinion the magic of a fast 85 comes in the medium telephoto focal distance. There are lots of lenses that can blow out a background in a headshot- pretty much anything long will do. But try shooting a subject at 30 feet or so- get their whole body in it, and make sure that the background is well behind them. The real 3D pop from a super fast 85 is achieved under these conditions, and is impossible to replicate with any other type of lens, IMO.

Since I got mine, I've taken lots of shots that have that same pop, because I know and practice that same formula. You should be able to do even better with the 85L.
