About the apparent softness- The scanning sometimes introduces noise. Getting rid of it requires a certain amount of diminished sharpness (well, the way I do it, anyhow). So it becomes a bit of a balancing act. Because not all monitors are calibrated the same, I picked what looked best on my monitor, and posted it.
