Agree on Worm-eating Warbler. In fact Sibley's states "specializes in probing hanging dead leaves" much like your noted behavior. Great find and nice image.

Of the four eastern warblers I've yet to see, this is likely my nemesis bird. Where did you see this? BTW, definitely a worm-eating warbler.
