p.1 #1 · Heading for the Palouse IR

Since Don has plunged ahead with stunning color images from our last trip, I sub mit a couple of IR shots. These were taken of a neat lonely tableau of derelict vehicles and houses off Hwy 24 near Hanford. The backdrop is the Rattlesnake Hills. The terrain did give me pause. This is indeed snake country.

Nice stuff - what are you using for the IR captures?

I like the contrasts you are getting with this and both of these shots worked well.

Thanks Alan. I'm shooting my Canon 300D. Unfortunately the contrast I'm going for generates quite a bit of noise. I tend to use Nik Efex Silver High Structure, and some additional Efex Color Tonal Contrast except in the skies. I would really like to move up the resolution and firmware scale though. Shot with my 17-40 lens. A good IR choice, not all lenses are.

You know that I like these. That IR effect is perfect for these. Outstanding captures.

What Tim didn't mention is that I was trying to catch a catnap behind the wheel while he shot these so I don't have any contributions.

Hi Tim, I assume that was not the car in which Don was napping Anyway, super IR images and excellent compositions

Hmmm, I think I see Don's feet sticking out a bit from the front seat....

Hey Tim,

Cool stuff. These both look super neat. That IR works great in locations like these.

Hi Tim,

Great ir comps and they remind me of trips I've had in Eastern Washington, in the Summer. I can almost feel that prickly heat rising from those wheat fields and radiating form that old car

That's a neat old car.

I just got a 30D converted to IR and am planning on the Palouse in a couple of weeks. I sure hope I see lots of fluffy clouds.

VERY nice use of IR.....suits these 2 great.

I wonder what made someone abandon the car in that spot.

I know exactly where this barn and car are. I have driven by it quite a few times as I grew up in the Tri-Cities. Funny that I always thought it would turn out great in black and white.

I must say though you have more courage than I as I chickened out on getting so close to the house last time I was there, as I recall it required you to go through a fence from the road right?
