Cosmetically and functionally in very good condition. Comes with front and rear caps and the Nikon CL-46 case shown in the photo. There is a scratch on the rear element that doesn't seem to affect image quality. I'd say it is 2.5mm long and towards the edge of the rear element. I don't have the lens with me to photograph the scratch...as far as I can tell it can't be discerned on an image.
On the 20-35, the serial number is prefixed with a US as the first 2 digits of the serial number on the aperture ring.
If there is no US, then it is probably an import.
I have 2. One has it, and the second does not.
I do not know whether there are any without the US which were actually US lenses.
Not that it matters at all, as they are all out of warranty, and service can be obtained on the imports anyway.
Thanks for the info. I agree about the US v Import thing once the warranty is up. Lots of people like to use it as a bargaining chip. According to a friend at Nikon, some 20-35 lenses were made for the US market without the "US" prefix as is the case with lots of other lenses made in long runs. I guess we'll never know!
