p.1 #1 · How do you not scare away the bugs?

Okay, just like it says...

I understand the concept of working distance and using a longer FL lens, but some of the amazing super close-up bug portraits are amazing. How do you keep the bugs still? How do you not scare them away?

Macro shooting, being fidgety as it is...requiring a tripod and delicate focus...how do you masters achieve all of this without the wasp, bee, hopper, fly leaving your scene?

Thanks,

-Josh

Never look it in the eye as you approach Seriously... Approach slowly, try to find an area rich in bugs, sit and look. I can go out to my wife's flower garden and just sit down. I have found that that I can sin in an area that seems to have nothing in it and then realize that there is a bug on that flower, oh, there is another one on that branch...

Tripod?? Have rock, will travel The only time I use a tripod is when shooting the things that will sit there in one spot for a long time, Crab spiders, leaf hoppers...
