Andy, in some ways I think this exposes the essence of nature for me. On the surface there is beauty, grace, athleticism and amazing ability but look beyond that and you see the uncertainty, almost helpless vulnerability of those that are preyed upon. Then you realise that during each animals lifecycle, virtually all get to occupy this latter position.

A very unique, interesting image. Of course the perspective is different but the timing of the capture was right on!

It says to me "Gotchya, you're not going anywhere!".

Hi Andy,
You wanted an empotional message.
For me the emotional message centres around the cycle of life, life and death and the survival of the fittest, power and precision in the strike, & beauty and form in the bird as exemplified by the wonderful shapes of the wings and tail.

How to improve it, not easy it is such a powerful image, but I would like to see the effect of more space under the bird and more also to the right so the bird is coming more out of the left and not so centred and more towards the viewer. Not saying it would work better but would like to try it.

Jude,
I was walking on the embankment when I heard a small explosion sound of the tern diving into the water. I had just enough time to draw the camera and aimed for a shot. I guess I was lucky it turned out this way.

This is a great shot you have with an unusual and highly interesting perspective. I think the composition works as-is; the story is well told, it shows environment, it's well grounded, and the focus/exposure is good.

My only nit is the light spot directly above the fish's eye, I find it distracting. We are drawn to eyes and that spot competes due to its proximity, I'd dull it down or eliminate it.

Another great image for your already amazing portfolio of bird shots, nice website too.
