n0b0 Offline Dedicated FM Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #1 · What type of LCD do you use? Simple question really, and to add one more, what LCD display type is at least as good as CRT in terms of colour reproduction? I've looked at quite a few LCDs and to be honest I'm not really impressed with them when compared to my CRT. Yes, I'm still using a CRT flatscreen. I do want to get with the 21st century and get me an LCD but so far the only one that really impress me is that Eizo monitor which uses S-PVA panel but it's a bit expensive. Anyway, I did a little research and there are two different IPS technology that interest me. Advance Super IPS and Horizontal IPS. Anyone familiar with them? All I know is that it was easy to calibrate with a Spyder3 and I've been very happy with it for photo and video editing. PVA is significantly differenet between straight on an d slightly off axis. Very dark straight on and much lighter only slightly off axis. It makes it very hard to judge contrast and tones in the shadows. Get an IPS. Gene Jun 30, 2009 at 11:49 PM

Three suggestions from me: Eizo CG241W NEC LCD2490WUxi (SV or non-SV) HP LP2475w The Eizo has, I believe, an S-PVA panel, but it is a 12-bit wide-gamut monitor and Eizo remains the gold standard for graphics. Viewing angles won't be quite as good as the NEC but if it's only you sitting in front of it you'll really not notice IMO. Both Eizo and LaCie use S-PVA panels in their higher-end monitors. Strangely enough I used the advanced setting on the ColorMunki on calibration and for the brightness to hit the 120, I had to reduce down to 1% brighness and the contrast stayed as set.
