p.1 #1 · Latest Nikon Capture 4.1 Workflow

First of all I'm new to the Nikon system having just purchased the D100 and a couple lenses this past December. I sold my Minolta SLR equipment this past summer while cleaning house prior to a move to Europe so I was not tied to any system. The camera did not get very much use since my wife and have enjoyed the instant gratification of seeing digital snapshots. (several rolls of undeveloped film) I've been shooting digital with point and shoots since Fuji came out with their 1.5 megapixal camera.

A friend of mine has always shot with Nikon but I have loved my Canon point and shoots. However, I'm finding the integrated system that Nikon has built between camera and software has been fantastic. I've also been debating whether or not to buy Photoshop and know that it's a steep learning curve to master, but I've found the latest update to Nikon Capture to be superb.

I can now view all the NEFs in one folder at a time in Capture without launching View. The update has also fixed the transfer problem with us OS X panther users using View. The last new feature that I'm finding to be very cool is the new LCH Editor Tool. I really enjoy the Velvia look of film and with Capture I can now bring out that missing snap in some of the shots I've taken that I haven't exposed well.

I'd be interested in what others have to say about Nikon's latest update.

Nikon has really embraced the concept of the "system" from their committment to DX glass (some here will argue the benefits of this , but I am not among then) , and their suite of software to process and view trier RAW format images. Front to back it is complete, Nikon Capture is constantly being fussed over by Nikon , I have been using it since version 2 something and there have been some real rough spots along the way, I just began using the update yesterday and wow there are some very nice touches on the update and that is hard to come by at this point , it is very powerful and delivers the best file for continued editing if needed in CS

Hello Duane,

If your choice is between another lens and Photoshop, get Photoshop . It's really the 'silk gloves' of processing. There is a learning curve, but you will learn much more than how to use the program.

good luck,

Hi Hugh,

Yes you're right, I should have probably have bought Photoshop this past week instead of the 10.5 fisheye but hey a man doesn't always make the right decision all the time!

You can download a trial-version of Photoshop CS on adobe.com and... P2P can help sometimes as well.....
