p.1 #1 · Help me pick lenses to rent..?

I'm shooting 2 weddings in the next few months and would like input on the lenses I should rent. I currently own:

- Rebel Xsi (2 bodies)
- 430EX II speedlite
- 18-55 IS
- 50mm 1.4
- 100mm 2.8 macro
- 70-200 f/4 non-IS

I would entertain the idea of purchasing/swapping some of the lenses in my lineup. I shoot weddings only about 1-2x/ year. The rest of the year, I shoot about anything and everything as a hobby. Money isn't abundant, but it isn't tight either. Thoughts?

-17-55 IS (just about the perfect lens on a crop, and constant 2.8)
-70-200 2.8 IS

You definitely need a backup speedlite before anything else, IMO.

I do have a sigma brand external flash as well and was actually going to get rid of it because I have the speedlite... maybe after the wedding.

In a previous wedding I did rent the 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 IS and wasn't terribly impressed. I was thinking about the 85 L because I've been wanting to check that bad boy out. Never thought of the 24L though, thanks for mentioning it

85 is pretty long on a crop camera... the 24-70 is too long, also, IMO.

Alright, so I reserved the 17-55 and the 70-200 2.8 IS, but I am debating getting the 85L instead. I really only want to rent 2 lenses. Would it be wise to get the 17-55 and the 85L?

It is a very small indoor wedding with poor lighting. The reception is at a restaurant with poor lighting as well. Outdoor group photos should have good light as long as the weather is good.

on a crop body like that, i'd suggest 24L-you've got the 50 f/1.4, which covers short tele-the 17-55 is a good idea as well if you want to go wider-if you're more of a natural light shooter, i'd say 24L-if not or if you prefer zooms, 17-55

the 70-200 f/4 is pretty slow-i'd look at upgrading that or at least renting the 2.8 IS-if money's an issue, a used 85 1.8 is pretty reasonable an a crop equivalent of 135 (close anyways)-optics are great with that lens, esp. for the price
