Local travel baseball team game pics from Saturday and this evening. Sun was out Saturday and I shot mostly from behind 1st base or 3rd base with 400/2.8. Today I decided to slap on the 1.4TC and shoot from outfield. It was cloudy and an evening game so the ISO ranges between 1000-5000. I think shooting from outfield gave me more opportunities to get more of the defensive plays. Some of these are heavy crop, oh how I long for the 600mm/f4...

If Shane can switch, and Paul is half-way in, you of all people can switch too!
Heh, that may take some time. I'm sure you can guess the kind of investment I made this year cover Worlds:
- new servers (3)
- new downloaders (6)
- new master burn boxes (9)
- new DVD towers: daisy chainable (36)
- pre printed DVDs (30,000)
- staff and airfare for most (30)
So my purchasing power has been diminished by quite a bit. It'll take about a year to recover. Anyway, I can keep Paul and Shane busy just about every weekend from Nov-May.
The question is: when are you gonna free up your schedule to go touring with us?
John some great looking shots. Although I don't see any rain! You must have lucked out. Field looks good for what has been coming our way the last week or so.
Can't wait to see some more of your work I'm always looking for it!

Ha! I'm always missing out on those gigs that Paul, Shane and John P tell me about. Nov-May is my peak season for gymnastics. But I maybe knocking on your door soon as I see more and more parents with 1D and D3 bodies at meets that I cover...

John what I love about this series is the unique angles you've managed to find (I'm sure in no small way 560mm helps but still...)
Nice stuff... keep 'em coming!
Thanks DJ. It was more fun today roaming around in outfield looking, waiting and anticipating action to happen. All the while I kept on thinking "Man, wouldn't it be nice to have a 600?"

Thanks Geoffrey! We have had plenty of rain and luckily it held off this evening. The field was a little wet as you can tell but still in pretty good shape! Unfortunately I think this would be my last travel baseball game due to my other commitments in the coming weeks, a 2-game season for me...
Yeah, John, I'm in the same boat as you, got a few requests to cover the upcoming local LL All-Star games problem is I already have some commitments. Looks like I'll be able to get a few games in but not a lot.
I'm hoping the rain holds off tomorrow for the Travelers Celeb Pro-AM as I have a lot of groupings to cover!
I like number 3 the best, the face is just perfect John. First it looks like you had good weather unlike those of us in New England, its been raining for 3 weeks. Well have a good night.
I like 3. I really like 6, something about it just looks like the kid is going to pop it. It has a mood of anticipation to it. I like 9 quite a bit too.

John,
I'm growing weary of the:
- accurate focusing
- beautiful colors
- low noise at high ISO
images from the D3 that you and Paul keep posting.
Go get the 600/4 and then at least MAYBE I can hear your wife complain about switching to the dark side.
(ironically, its Paul and Shanes pix that have MY wife thinking about switching over!) (I haven't showed her your pix yet!)
Wait... Am I reading this correctly? Hammy? Shooting a Nikon? After you hired someone to steal all of my Nikon gear to get me to switch to Canon?
Great shots John! You make me miss my Nikons...Keep posting!
