The 40D in LV mode is much more awkward to use than a m43 camera is. I wouldn't use it as a test on the usability of a much smaller camera specifically designed for LV use.

I was just going to say the same. Its so very easy to use MF with the G1, and I would think it would be similar with the EP-1. I don't have LV on my Canons, but from the descriptions of others using them, it seems somewhat awkward. Its not so using MF with the m4/3rds. In fact, I often prefer shooting that way than AF. YMMV however.

Thank you for letting me know. A friend of mine has the G1 and has ordered the E-P1. After he gets it, I'll pay him a visit and try it out myself.

Got mine from jinfinance last week. Yes Canon EFs can be used with his adapter.
However, to set the aperture EFs is a little bit terrible..., it is still possible with a trick !.

I would guess the tip is the same for the EF-s and EF---that you set your aperture normally, as jcollum said,---then, as you dismount, you press the DOF preview button on the camera and hold it--this will maintain the aperture setting. Kludgy, but works--but, of course, you must have a Canon body to use it--so unless you carry one (as I did this trip--my 5D and G1), you will need to decide what you want to use and set it to carry by itself with an m4/3rds. You can't change it again until you mount it to an EOS body.

Yes jcolwell's tip applies to aperture setting.

My freind was here and both the 10-22 Efs and Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di mounted on the adapter and shot with no problems.

The 10-22 has a white line , do not use this to mount the lens to the adapter, you will find it has to be rotated about 5 degrees for the lens to actually fit the EF - G1 adapter. If you line the white line to 12 oclock the lens will not go on.

I wonder if anyone can take a picture of the E-P1, the Canon adapter and a Canon lens. If possible, also hold it in your hand or something. I just want to get an idea of the perspective of the whole complex.

I didn't see this until today. Do you want something like the 45 TS lens or something more usable and most people may have like the 50 f/1.4 and 28 f/1.8 (which aren't terribly unbalanced on the G1)??

It seems like the only use of an EOS->M43 adapter would be for people who already have x->EOS adapters, which is probably a large number of people on this forum.

Pretty much the only native EOS lenses small enough to not feel unwieldy on the M43 bodies are the buzzy black plastic primes (24/2.8, 50/1.8, etc.), which don't have the greatest MF feel.

More like the TS lenses for tripod use. I've no interest in Canon's smaller primes as there are much better options out there for the G1.

Yes, not disparaging the EP-1 because I do rather covet it LOL--but having held it, shot with it with my own FD and MA-1 adaptors and a couple of MF lenses, I would not think it would be good with the larger EF mounts.

This is totally a personal experience, but I've had no problem at all shooting with the G1 with lower shutter speeds with MF lenses (including EFs) than I'm able to do with the 5D or 400D. I'm not sure what to 'blame'--I've always thought a heavier camera is more stable than a light one, but....I do know that I can shoot with all my lenses, all other things being as similar as possible to the same, with lower shutter speeds on the G1 than I can the heavier cameras. I don't shoot with IS generally--none of my EFs (that I use all the time) have it--and perhaps I've learned to shoot w/o relying on it--who knows. Just relaying my own experience. I shoot quite often with the heavier FD 135 f/2.8 without IS with no problem--handheld (2 hands). I do think being able to use the EVF helps--I don't think I could do the same focusing/composing with the EP-1.

I was thinking about the 28/1.8 and 85/1.8 or 100/2. Certainly not too big by DSLR standards but if you think about adding the 10-22 for the WA this becomes a system and then, the total weight difference compared to 40D with these lenses becomes miniscule.

I agree there. I mounted the 85 /1.8 but didn't like it on G1 and likely wouldn't like 10-22 (I've tried 12-24, 17-35 and 15-30--nah LOL). The m4/3rds seem best to me with generally smaller legacy lenses like FDs, M mounts, Hexanon, etc., native m4/3rds lenses, smaller 4/3 lenses and, when needed, specialty lenses that are aided by the MF assist on the G1 especially--like my TS.
